I was going bathing suit shopping earlier this week... Can I just say that I am sick of finding suits that are so cute but fit weird? I found this American Eagle one that was on sale and everything. (I tried to find a picture of it on their website but i can't because they were getting rid of it so they put only their new ones on the website). Anyway i loved it, but there were a couple problems with it, like the fact that it was white and that it the fit was so awkward. So, in light of that. I am going to bestow some of my swimsuit buying wisdom on all my readers.
Rule #1 NEVER EVER EVER buy a white swim suit (unless it has a big print on it that covers the entire suit-like tons of tiny flowers or thick stripes). This rule doesn't apply if you never go in the water, so if all you do is lay out and tan, ignore this rule. I guess the reason for giving this rule is kind of obvious... white suit+water=essentially being naked in the middle of the beach.
Rule #2 If it's a bikini, it's OK for you to get a bigger top than bottom, or vice versa. Don't think you have to squeeze yourself into a small bottom just because you have no boobs and so you wear a small top.
Rule #3 (and this one applies for both men and women) Thong on the beach= EWWWWWWWWWWW even if you think you're hot enough to pull it off. NOBODY WANTS TO SEE THAT. need I say more?
Rule #4 (This one is strictly for men) PLEASE DO NOT WEAR A SPEEDO. Unless you are in a diving or swimming meet and therefore are required to wear one... YOU SHOULD'NT EVEN OWN ONE!
Rule #5 If you're getting one of those bandeau bikinis make sure your boobs don't stick out of the bottom of the top. This probably means that if you are heavily gifted in the chest region, stay away from the bandeaus. Sorry, but that is how it has to be.
Rule #6 Be careful buying suits from popular places like Hollister, American Eagle, and Abercrombie and Fitch... unless you don't mind going to the beach and finding about 50 other girls wearing the SAME suit. (Yes i know, I almost broke this rule... but the suit really would have been worth it)
Rule #7 Do what I did... buy a suit when you go on vaca (I got both of mine in CA-one from Laguna Beach). That way, you will probably not ever see anyone else with the same one. YAY!
Rule #8 Some bikinis have bottoms that ride up so much that they essentially look like thongs... (If you fall into this category, see rule #3)
Rule #9 If you are going to get a string bikini, MAKE SURE YOU TIGHTEN THOSE KNOTS as much as possible PLEASE before wearing it out anywhere! This will hopefully avoid you a lot of embarrasment.
Rule #10 If you want to get a one piece because you feel more comfortable in them, go for it! Just know that you can still get a stylish one piece. You don't have to settle for a matronly suit.
All right, that is it for my list of swimsuit rules, but I will add more if i think of more. If you think of any feel free to post them...
